Usually, if your water smells like sulfur or rotten eggs, the reason is because your water has high Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) content. H2S is a mineral that is released from the earth and finds its way into groundwater. It’s especially common in well water located near shale, sandstone, coal, peat, or oil. (Occasionally, a rotten-egg smell in your water could also be caused by a water heater or by sewage pollution in your water. If you’re on city water, the most likely explanation is your water heater.)

A rotten-egg smell in your water may be strongest right after turning the water on, as heat forces the gas out of the water and into the air

H2S dissolves in water to create a weak acid that can corrode metal pipes
In addition to potential health risks, having H2S in your water can cause all sorts of annoying problems. H2S in your water can:
- Cause coffee and tea to be discolored and taste funny
- Corrode metals (steel, copper, iron, brass), including silverware
- Cause foods cooked with water to taste “off”
- Create yellow or black stains in your bathroom and kitchen
Here at Hawkins Water Tech, you can find everything you need to get rid of H2S and that sulfur/rotten-egg smell from your water. The first step we have to take is to test your water, so we can be sure of the real cause of the rotten-egg smell. Fortunately, here at Hawkins Water Tech we offer this service free. One of our water experts will come to your home to test the water (you can’t send it away to a laboratory because H2S is a gas and could dissipate during transport) and let you know the source of your rotten-egg smell. You’re under no obligation whatsoever.
Hawkins’ water treatment systems can help remove the rotten-egg smell from your water

From working with Curt on making the initial appointment and getting the estimate, to the office person I spoke to when paying, to Shawn being so helpful with scheduling the install, to the gentleman (and I am sorry I did not get his name) [Nate] who did the installation, I am truly impressed. Everyone has been so courteous and helpful.
Hopefully I won’t need any assistance other than filling the system with salt but I feel assured that, if something does go wrong, your company will handle the issue just as quickly and efficiently as the installation process has been.
I would recommend you all highly.

He showed up on time, and did a wonderful job re-configuring our existing plumbing schematic. His professional design is neat and attractive and takes up minimal space. The system in working well. The water tastes as good, or better, than any bottled water. We are glad that we chose Hawkins for the job, over numerous other companies offering water conditioning systems. Keep up the good work.
Great service, good value – I’d recommend you to anybody. Thanks!

My family, including two children under the age of 3, live in Granger. It's no secret that our well water contains high levels of nitrates. Upon purchasing our home, we installed a reverse-osmosis system to deliver safe, clean, drinking water for our family. After 5 years of use and annual maintenance, I decided to contact Hawkins Water Tech for a free water test to ensure our RO system was still functioning properly and to complete a health check on our water softener. After submitting an online request, Doug contacted me via phone within 30 minutes. Great first impression. He recapped my request and quickly scheduled an on-site consultation to complete the water test. The morning of the appointment, he contacted both myself and my wife (who was at home) to let us know he was on his way while providing his anticipated arrival time. He showed up right on time. My wife showed him to our RO system and water softener in the basement. He completed the analysis and provided a thorough debriefing of our current systems, which were both functioning as desired. He did offer recommendations for improvement, including a more efficient RO system that would provide better filtration and production capacity, however he did not push any of these offerings on either myself or my wife during/after the visit. I spoke with him via phone following the visit to discuss his recommendations. He provided thorough and honest feedback, which I really appreciated. Overall, excellent experience with Doug! I will recommend HWT without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone else who asks. Thank you!

Their team bent over backwards to ensure that our final water treatment system met our expectations. I use the word “team” in its truest sense. Our installation included water softening and a reverse osmosis (RO) system. It turned out that we didn’t care for the taste of the RO water. That’s where the team at Hawkins really showed their commitment to customer satisfaction. They worked with us to try solving this issue – without any hesitation. In the end, we had the RO unit removed and switched over to filtered hard water for drinking. It turned out that my wife and I just didn’t like the taste of RO water. During this process we were impressed with the diligence that the Hawkins Team placed in resolving our issue. As if that wasn’t enough, we received full reimbursement for the removed RO unit. To sum it up – call Hawkins Water if you are considering installing a water treatment system.
